About Barb

My personal journey has given me genuine insight into the challenges one can encounter on the path of wellness and change. I understand obstacles, and have many techniques for identifying those, as well as skills to get beyond them.

My path was long with many switchbacks along the way: slow progress.  There came a time, about 25 years ago, when I was so unhappy I didn’t like myself: I didn’t like to look in the mirror.  I needed and wanted change, and didn’t know how to.  The next two decades were a steep climb of small steps; educating myself, making healthier choices, finding motivation to move again, and feeling better…and better about myself.

Fast forward: I now love and accept myself and can look in the mirror and smile!  I am motivated towards health and wholeness in all aspects of myself. And in June 2023 I achieved my biggest physical goal; I summited Kilimanjaro!

I moved to Colorado Springs in the fall of 2021 and love it here. I see Pikes Peak every day. There is sunshine 300 days a year, and yes, it gets cold, but I even love that because wearing sweaters and sunglasses is my favorite! I am rejuvenated in nature, and love to hike with other outdoor enthusiasts and my dog Scout. Mostly I love being near family, nurturing meaningful friendships, deepening my faith walk through service and community, and learning to live with gusto!  I aspire to write children’s stories (and more), and to learn to paint… someday, right!?

It would be a privilege to meet you soon and help you live with gusto and go for your dreams! Go Health! Go You!

My Approach and Style

I believe that every person knows themselves best, and has individual needs, wants, and strengths.  What can work for one person, doesn’t work for all; there is no ‘one size fits all’.  Therefore, an integrative approach to health – body, mind, and spirit – is key to sustainable and meaningful wellness.  This is what we work on together. I work as your guide, with you choosing the destination.  I bring to you my insight, knowledge, and enthusiasm as your coach, to help you enrich your life, finding balance and joy.

My Credentials

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Studies, and a Master of Science in Health Coaching, with a Concentration in Applied Nutrition.  Earlier studies were in addiction and recovery.

I am a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC). My prior career was as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADCIII). I retired from counseling in spring, 2022, to focus on Wellness, and Recovery Coaching.

Education, life experiences, counseling for years, and my own personal transformation, have all shaped me to be a person with greater empathy, less judgement, and skillful communication.
